- First, open File Explorer and find the folder to be locked with a password.
- Second, right-click on the folder and select the “Properties” menu.

- Finally, click “OK” and select “Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files”.

This method is actually not very safe because it is easy to trick, for example by opening the folder using WinRAR or WinZIP. However, this method can be tried to lock the folder, especially so that it is not easily accessed by children.
Here are the steps to give a password to a folder in Windows with a script locker:
- First, open the “Notepad” application.
- Then enter the folder lock script.
- To change the password, please change the section that is already in the red box Gadgetlogy. Passwords can be both text and numbers.
- Then please save this script with a combination of CTRL + S or via the File menu -> Save.
- Save this file in the folder you want to lock with a password. In the “File name” section you can fill it as you like
- but it must end with (.bat). Change “Save as type” to “All Files” then click the “Save” button.
- Next, click the “.bat” file that you created earlier so that a new folder named “Locker” appears.
- Move the file or folder you want to lock into the “Locker” folder.
- Next, please click on the “.bat” file again.
- After clicking, 2 options will appear (Y/N) / (Yes/No). If you want to continue type “Y” then press “Enter”.
- At this stage the “Locker” folder is hidden.
To bring back the “Locker” folder, please click the “.bat” file earlier and enter the password you chose. - After filling in the password correctly, the “Locker” folder will reappear.
How to give a password to a folder using WinRAR / WinZIP
Giving a password to the folder with winrar and winzip is currently the most secure and easy way.
However, you have to install the winrar / winzip software first to give a password and open a password on a locked folder.
Here are the steps to give a password to a folder in Windows with the WinRAR application:
- First, open File Explorer and find the folder that you want to assign a password to.
- Second, right-click on the folder and select the “Add to Archive…” menu.
- Next, select “Set password…” to enter a password for the folder.
- Then fill in the password of your choice in the box below “Enter Password”. If so, click “OK”.
- Then in the “Archive format” you can choose between RAR or ZIP.
- In the “Archive name” section, please enter the name you want. Well, by default it will be filled according to the name of the folder that you will lock. Then click “OK” to start the folder locking process.
